21st Whitewater Rodeo Goes Back to its Roots.

June 19, 2018

Iconic Whistler businesses come together to make the Whitewater Rodeo 2018 a force for good.

The Whitewater Rodeo is a legendary Whistler event, with 300 locals and VIPs rafting the Green River with Wedge Rafting and kicking on at a bumpin’ after-party at Cougar Mountain. This will be its 21st year.

The Adventure Group (TAG)Wedge RaftingGibbons, and Good Fortune Collective have pooled their expertise and experience to plan a fun-filled, feel-good event for locals to kick off the summer in style. They have joined forces to make this long-standing event a force for good.

Once again, 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Zero Ceiling, funding their programs for young people who have experienced homelessness from the Sea to Sky corridor and Vancouver.

Zero Ceiling’s Work 2 Live program provides housing, employment, support and outdoor adventure for young people who have experienced homelessness from the Sea to Sky and Vancouver. All have faced significant challenges in their lives: many have been in government care, experienced poverty, unstable housing, and disruption in their lives. They’re looking for stability and opportunity, and that’s what the Work 2 Live program provides.

“Our incredible community is what makes Whistler such a powerful place to base our Work 2 Live program,” said Chris Wrightson, Co-executive Director of Zero Ceiling.

That’s also what inspired Joey Houssian, owner of TAG, to donate the rodeo ticket sales to Zero Ceiling last year. “We know the Whitewater Rodeo has always been a favourite among locals, and leveraging their enthusiasm to support Zero Ceiling just makes sense,” said Houssian. “The community spirit that the Rodeo embodies is the same spirit that makes Zero Ceiling’s programs so effective, so we’re glad we can bring a real benefit to these young people through the event.”

Joey Gibbons, owner of Gibbons Whistler was also keen to come on board, and use Gibbons’ decades of experience planning the best parties and events in Whistler to support Zero Ceiling. “We were really excited to come on board. It’s a fantastic cause and one that’s close to our hearts as a long-time local business. We understand how hard these young people are working to transform their lives, and it’s great to be a part of that.”

“We’re humbled by the time, effort and resources all our partner organizations have put into the Whitewater Rodeo,” said Chris Wrightson, Co-executive Director of Zero Ceiling. “The funding raised from this event will make a huge difference to the young people in our programs. We’re only a small charity, so we’re thrilled that these iconic Whistler businesses have come together to transform this long-time locals’ event into such a great fundraiser for Zero Ceiling.”
