Whistler’s First Ever Multimedia Nightwalk Opens at Cougar Mountain

Last week (July 18th, 2018) saw the long-awaited launch of Vallea Lumina, a spectacular multimedia night walk at Whistler’s Cougar Mountain. Over 600 guests gathered in the mountain’s old-growth forest to walk the 1.5km trail for the first time, celebrating the opening of Whistler’s newest immersive experience.

Vallea Lumina is the eighth night walk experience from our partners Montreal-based Moment Factory, marking the beginning of a new era of destination experiences in BC.

The experience is located at our base at Cougar Mountain, just eight minutes north of Whistler Village, in the heart of a lush rainforest. With a stunning backdrop of mountain and valley views, the setting lends an otherworldly atmosphere to the experience, and is inspired by the local culture and the natural beauty of its location. Vallea Lumina uses a universal language, speaking to audiences of all ages and interests and bringing generations together using a combination of emotive lights, videos, soundscape and scenography. Guests are transported to another world, with plenty of opportunities to explore and engage with the environment.

Vallea Lumina runs daily until October 15th, 2018. The experience begins at sundown and takes place every 20 minutes (exact times vary depending on time of year). The illuminated 1.5km long trail takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and a complimentary shuttle service is provided to transport visitors between Whistler Village and Cougar Mountain. Tickets cost $29 for adults (16+), $24 for youth (6 to 15 years) and children 5 years and under receive free admission. For more information or to book, visit vallealumina.com.

21st Whitewater Rodeo Goes Back to its Roots.

By | White Water Rafting | No Comments

Iconic Whistler businesses come together to make the Whitewater Rodeo 2018 a force for good.

The Whitewater Rodeo is a legendary Whistler event, with 300 locals and VIPs rafting the Green River with Wedge Rafting and kicking on at a bumpin’ after-party at Cougar Mountain. This will be its 21st year.

The Adventure Group (TAG), Wedge Rafting, Gibbons, and Good Fortune Collective have pooled their expertise and experience to plan a fun-filled, feel-good event for locals to kick off the summer in style. They have joined forces to make this long-standing event a force for good.

Once again, 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Zero Ceiling, funding their programs for young people who have experienced homelessness from the Sea to Sky corridor and Vancouver.

Zero Ceiling’s Work 2 Live program provides housing, employment, support and outdoor adventure for young people who have experienced homelessness from the Sea to Sky and Vancouver. All have faced significant challenges in their lives: many have been in government care, experienced poverty, unstable housing, and disruption in their lives. They’re looking for stability and opportunity, and that’s what the Work 2 Live program provides.

“Our incredible community is what makes Whistler such a powerful place to base our Work 2 Live program,” said Chris Wrightson, Co-executive Director of Zero Ceiling.

That’s also what inspired Joey Houssian, owner of TAG, to donate the rodeo ticket sales to Zero Ceiling last year. “We know the Whitewater Rodeo has always been a favourite among locals, and leveraging their enthusiasm to support Zero Ceiling just makes sense,” said Houssian. “The community spirit that the Rodeo embodies is the same spirit that makes Zero Ceiling’s programs so effective, so we’re glad we can bring a real benefit to these young people through the event.”

Joey Gibbons, owner of Gibbons Whistler was also keen to come on board, and use Gibbons’ decades of experience planning the best parties and events in Whistler to support Zero Ceiling. “We were really excited to come on board. It’s a fantastic cause and one that’s close to our hearts as a long-time local business. We understand how hard these young people are working to transform their lives, and it’s great to be a part of that.”

“We’re humbled by the time, effort and resources all our partner organizations have put into the Whitewater Rodeo,” said Chris Wrightson, Co-executive Director of Zero Ceiling. “The funding raised from this event will make a huge difference to the young people in our programs. We’re only a small charity, so we’re thrilled that these iconic Whistler businesses have come together to transform this long-time locals’ event into such a great fundraiser for Zero Ceiling.”

The Whitewater Rodeo 2018 is taking place on Wednesday June 20th. Check out www.zeroceiling.org/whitewater-rodeo to find out more.

Zipline Renaming Contest.

By | SuperFly | 5 Comments

Z1 & Z2 Renaming Contest – Win a Superfly Ziplines Adventure for Two!

Z1 and Z2 are not the most creative and exciting names for ziplines, so why are they called that?
Before we built the two epic ziplines that redefined our zipline experience in 2013, Superfly Ziplines was called “Zoom Ziplines”, and during construction the engineers labelled the record-breaking lines as “Zoom 1” and “Zoom 2”. Throughout the process these were shortened to Z1 and Z2, but it was never intended for these names to be brought to the public. After some long nights of brainstorming by the team and much discussion back and forth, the internal debate over new names was deadlocked. When it was brought to a vote it came back as a tie, and so without a decision, the construction names of Z1 and Z2 just stuck.
In contrast, the third and fourth ziplines on Superfly are called “Godzilla”, a fan favourite that features the fastest acceleration of all lines, and “Basejumper”, which completes your journey down to our base area. Z1 and Z2 never really rolled off the tongue or fit with the others, and we’ve decided it’s about time to finally come up with something a little more original.

Send your most innovative and ingenious names for these spectacular ziplines to [email protected] and if we select your ideas to officially rename our ziplines, you’ll win a gift certificate for 2 to experience Superfly Ziplines and ride on the ziplines that you named!

Contest closes Thursday, May 17th 2018.
